Stunning Martin Keith Elfin 5-string bass with an African mahogany body birdsye maple top with matching wood pickup covers, Wenge fingerboard and matching wenge front and back laminates for the headstock. Passive electronics with volume, volume, and tone controls. This bass also includes Martin's new hybrid neck construction, which features a maple neck, carbon fiber reinforcement and a pine core. This reduces the weight of the neck and the bass quite dramatically, with the total weight coming in well under 8 pounds. The neck construction also affects the tone in a positive way, adding clarity to the notes. We're really excited to see builders like Martin Keith pushing the envelope with new designs like this.
This compact-bodied shape is shortened, for full access to all frets. The shape 'hugs' the player and nestles into a very comfortable playing position, standing or seated.
The extended upper bout supports the neck heel further than a usual double-cutaway body, allowing more contact between body and neck, and making the neck more rigid by shortening the unsupported section. A more rigid neck translates into a faster, more responsive attack, longer sustain, and deeper bass.
The size also makes this model well-suited for heavier, denser body woods such as Hard Ash, heavier Walnut, and even Maple, allowing the player access to the tones of those woods without the excessive weight. Includes a Martin Keith logo gig bag.
